Loyd was a high school teacher for 19 years. He taught American Government, US History and Economics. He was also head varsity basketball coach for 5 years and assistant football for 4. The yearbook was dedicated to him in 1982 and he was nominated for teacher of the year in 1983. He left this successful career reluctantly, but was recruited by his father to help write his book. Loyd took a year leave of absence from teaching to accomplish this. Working closely with his father, this labor of love took 6 months. It was published by Texas Tech University Press in 1997. The following year his father asked if he would stay and continue to help him. Loyd's tenure with Vandergriff Inc officially began in 1996. |
